Give group fitness a try.

Happy Wednesday everyone!  I’m still trying to get in the swing of things.  I don’t know I just feel off this week.  I haven’t been hungry and I’ve been a little tired.  Maybe it’s because it’s a million degrees outside.  All I know is, I’m just trying to stay hydrated!

When I’m feeling down in the dumps, I’m always grateful for group fitness.  It forces me to be around people, when I don’t want and group fitness pushes me in a workout.

Just think about it? If you’re having a low energy day and decide to hit the treadmill, are you going to push as hard?  You might let your mood dictate the intensity of your workout and sometimes that’s not always a good thing.  Group fitness ensures you’re going to have a great workout just by being there. I know there are days I definitely not feeling it but when I get into the room everything just clicks. I always feel better when I’m done and sometimes you just need the energy of others to get to the end.

It’s intimidating to go to a class.  I remember the first class I went to back in January 2011.  I was scared and I wanted to quit.  But the instructor was so nice and encouraging.  Despite all the pain we were in after that class, that was motivation enough for me to keep going.  That’s how I became a Group Power junkie.

Here is why I think you should try group fitness:

1. You’ll learn proper form and technique by a certified group fitness instructor.

2. Working out is more fun when you do it with others…and those others will eventually become your friends. It’s a great way to meet new people!

3. You can try lots of different things.  There are tons of classes out there.  At my gym there is a plethora of classes like: core, power, cycle, zumba, yoga, HIIT, step, weights…this is just your chance to dabble in a little bit of everything and find the workout that is RIGHT FOR YOU!

4. Group fitness classes happen on a schedule so it will help you plan your weekly workouts better.  If you know that Zumba is MW and 5:45pm, you can plan to go to that class.

5. It’s a great way to make your progress.  Over time you can mark your progress by doing more, going harder or just having other people watch your change!  It’s a win/win situation!

My biggest tip: Don’t be afraid of the group setting.  Remember everyone is there to do the same thing, workout.  And don’t be afraid to try something out of your comfort zone.  There is no change without change and sometimes that means reaching outside of your comfort zone.
